XXImo moves to fully cloud-based transaction processing
XXImo migrates infrastructure to AWS for cloud-based mobility payments with Visa Cloud Connect and Amazon Payment Cryptography.
XXImo, the leading European mobility payments platform, has successfully migrated its infrastructure to Amazon Web Services (AWS) with the support of cloud services expert CloudNation. With this step, XXImo sets a new industry standard as one of the first companies worldwide to move 100% of their card processing to the cloud, while integrating Visa Cloud Connect and Amazon Payment Cryptography (APC) on AWS. This marks a significant milestone in the evolution of cloud-based mobility payments, with XXImo well-positioned to lead the charge in frictionless, scalable, and secure mobility payments.
A Strategic Leap in Payments Innovation
XXImo’s migration to AWS is a deliberate and forward-thinking move, as it ensures scalability, enhanced security, and operational efficiency as the company scales up and expands to new markets. By processing transactions and encryption entirely in the cloud, XXImo reduces its reliance on hardware, lowering maintenance costs while improving performance and resilience. This transition aligns with the broader shift in the payments industry toward cashless payments, driven by the rapid adoption of digital wallets and mobile solutions. At the same time, instant payment systems are becoming the norm, enabling real-time transactions and enhancing consumer convenience. With projections indicating that global business travel expenditures will exceed $2 trillion USD by 2028, reflecting an annual growth rate of approximately 5%, XXImo’s cloud-first approach positions it to support the evolving demands of modern businesses. This strategy cements XXImo's position as a frontrunner in mobility payments, providing partners, customers and end users across Europe a future-proof, seamless, and secure payment experience.
Visa Cloud Connect and APC in AWS: Pioneering the Future of Mobility Payments
XXImo is among the first adopters of Visa Cloud Connect, enabling a direct and secure integration with Visa. This eliminates the need for on-premises infrastructure, allowing XXImo to scale and expand its mobility payment capabilities across new markets.
In parallel, the implementation of APC marks a shift away from traditional hardware-based encryption. With a cloud-native, pay-per-use encryption model, XXImo optimizes cost efficiency while maintaining the highest security standards.
Strategic Partnerships Driving Innovation
The migration is executed in close collaboration with AWS, Visa, and CloudNation—three tech leaders instrumental in facilitating the transformation.
“By migrating to AWS, we are accelerating our ability to scale, innovate, and enhance our service delivery. With Visa Cloud Connect and APC, combined with our strategic partnerships with Visa, AWS, and CloudNation, we now process transactions with even greater efficiency and security. This transition enables us to offer improved SLAs, ensuring higher reliability and customer satisfaction. Additionally, we now have access to a wealth of on-demand services and expertise, allowing us to optimize operations and continuously enhance our platform’s capabilities,” says Zaheer Sacranie, CTO at XXImo.
“Visa Cloud Connect provides a secure and flexible solution for companies like XXImo to modernize their payment infrastructure,” says Ian Lundberg, Chief Officer, SVP Client Services Europe at Visa. “We are proud to see XXImo at the forefront to embrace this technology.”
“AWS Payment Cryptography provides a modern, cloud-native solution for XXImo’s PCI-compliant cryptography needs. In addition, establishing secure AWS PrivateLink connectivity with Visa Cloud Connect enables a secure connection without traversing the public internet, while at the same time reducing integration times to streamline the entire transaction processing flow,” said Scott Mullins, Managing Director, Financial Services, AWS. “With elastic scaling and local AWS Region support for low latency, XXImo can focus more on growing their business and less on their infrastructure.”
“We are proud to have guided XXImo through this strategic shift,” says Bart Boonen, Co-founder and CTO at CloudNation. “This transition establishes a strong foundation for XXImo’s continued growth and innovation in the mobility payments industry.”
A Future-Proof Platform for European Mobility
With its cloud-native infrastructure, XXImo is well-positioned to lead the charge in frictionless, scalable, and secure mobility payments. By leveraging AWS, Visa Cloud Connect, and APC, the company is setting new industry standards for transaction processing, ensuring its customers benefit from the most efficient and secure payment solutions available today.
